Starting a new island in Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream is exciting — but there are things the game never tells you. Here are the 10 most important tips to know before you start playing.

1. Plan Your Personalities Before Creating Miis

Once you lock in a Mii's personality sliders, you can't change them without deleting and recreating the Mii. Use the Personality Calculator to decide your slider settings before you start.

Each personality type behaves completely differently — a Lively Mii will constantly talk to others and request social interactions, while a Laid-Back Mii moves slowly and rarely starts conversations on their own.

2. Create Yourself First

The game works better when you have an "anchor" Mii — and that's you. Your own Mii acts as the core personality around which friendships and events will form. Create yourself with accurate personality settings for the most authentic island experience.

3. Aim for 5+ Miis Quickly

At 5 Miis, the News Station unlocks. This is one of the most useful facilities because it announces what happened on your island while you were away. Rush to this milestone in your first few play sessions.

4. Use the Hand Cursor Daily

The Hand Cursor (hold down on a Mii) is the most important tool for building relationships. Pick up a Mii and place them next to another to trigger interactions. Do this every day for your favourite Mii pairs if you want friendships and romance to develop.

5. Don't Ignore Thought Bubbles

When a bubble appears above a Mii's house, they want something. Different bubble icons mean:

• 🍴 Fork = wants food
• 👗 Dress = wants clothing
• 💰 Coin = wants money
• ❗ Exclamation = has a problem or request

Fulfil these quickly to keep happiness high. Unhappy Miis don't have events.

6. Warm Fuzzies Are Your Main Currency

Warm Fuzzies are the special currency earned by keeping Miis happy. Spend them at the Wishing Fountain to unlock island upgrades, new facilities, and special events. Prioritise earning them early.

7. Keep Compatibility in Mind for Romance

If you want two specific Miis to fall in love, check their MBTI compatibility. Some personality combinations have high natural compatibility; others will need a lot more Hand Cursor time to get together.

8. The Food System Is Deeper Than It Looks

Every Mii has favourite and least-favourite foods based on their personality. Feeding a Mii their favourite food gives a big happiness boost and earns a Food Trophy. Experiment with different foods — finding "all-time favourites" is one of the most satisfying moments in the game.

9. Back Up Your Save File

10. There's No Rush
